Statement by Justice and Peace on the closure of Dungavel Removal Centre
Justice and Peace Scotland has long had a concern for those held in Dungavel. Members of the Commission and J&P activists have been frequent protesters at the facility. We therefore welcome the decision to close it but we are most concerned to add a caveat. Pope Francis has demonstrated a particular concern for refugees and asylum seekers and Justice and Peace Scotland echoes these concerns. We therefore join those calling for reassurance that humane and acceptable living conditions are made available to those who have been detained in Dungavel and for all immigrant detainees.
