New film released for Refugee Week

GROW YOUR OWN is a heart-warming, poignant comedy to be released in cinemas nationwide during Refugee Week

• Posted on Jun 12, 2007

A tale of real life, true love and plump vegetables, GROW YOUR OWN follows the comedies and dramas which unfold on a city allotment when several refugee families are given plots as rehabilitation therapy. The long-term plot holders are not too happy at first, but united by a love of making things grow, friendships flourish and the seeds of a revolution are sown.

The brilliant ensemble cast includes Benedict Wong (Sunshine, A Cock and Bull Story, Dirty Pretty Things), Eddie Marsan (The Illusionist, Miami Vice, Vera Drake), actor and comedian Omid Djalili (Gladiator), Alan Williams (Vera Drake, Bright Young Things) Philip Jackson (Chief Inspector Japp in 'Poirot', Brassed Off), Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz, 'Peep Show'), Sarah Hadland (The Magicians), Pearce Quigley (Millions, 'Cutting it'), Roland Manookian (The Business), John Henshaw (Starter for Ten, 'Early Doors'), Sophie Stanton ('The Vice', 'Prime Suspect 4') and newcomers Sophie Lee and Jeffrey Li.

Acclaimed screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, 24 Hour Party People, Hilary & Jackie) teamed up with filmmaker and friend Carl Hunter to create the funny and warm-hearted script, and director Richard Laxton (Life & Lyrics) executes the bold storytelling. They drew from Hunter's experiences with real life asylum seekers and refugees on an allotment plot scheme to create a story that embraces such universal themes as community, immigration and the therapeutic power of gardening.

Grow Your own is released nationwide on the 15th June. For more information contact 020 7247 4171 or visit www.growyourownthemovie.co.uk
