Yet with one doctor per 10,000 people and life expectancy a mere 47 years, who’s benefitting from the wealth beneath their feet?
As with countless countries around the world that have a wealth of natural resources, Zambia’s mineral riches won’t last forever. Men and women in resource-rich countries are unaware of how much foreign mining companies pay for their birthright in the form of taxes and royalties. Without this information, they can’t call for a fair share of the profits to be spent on schools, hospitals and basic services like electricity.
