Saturday 16 June assemble George Square at 12noon, march rounf city at 12.30pm arrive back in George Square for rally

Due to a recent change in UKBA policy, asylum seekers waiting for their lawyers to submit an appeal cannot receive financial assistance.
Now the Government has withdrawn the housing support contract from Ypeople (the charity previously called YMCA Glasgow) and awarded the new contract for housing asylum seekers in Glasgow to the giant multinational Serco.
Serco makes its profits for its shareholders from running prisons and detention centres!
Refused refugees living in Glasgow are to be evicted by their current landlord Ypeople in the near future. It is claimed that these evictions need to happen before Serco takes over the housing contract.
These refugees will be left without a home, without any right to work or any state support whatsoever. They will be left destitute on the streets of Glasgow.
These people have had their claim for asylum refused, even though most are unable to return to their countries because they are far too dangerous. They include Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Zimbabwe and others.
The hand over will take place by the end of August and the evictions could begin at anytime. Community groups say they will not be able to cope and that a humanitarian disaster is about to happen.
We are demanding that Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government step in immediately and stop this disaster before it happens.
What kind of city and what kind of Scotland are they governing that allows this kind of humanitarian outrage to occur?
We also demand that the British Government honours its international obligations in the spirit as well as the letter of the Geneva Convention and other international human rights laws by granting protection and the right to work to all people who are fleeing war, famine, torture and dictatorships across the world.
Join the demo and show solidarity with refugees. Together we can stop these attacks.
