For Syria’s 3.2 million refugees, winter is closing in - ask your MP to act

Nearly a year ago, under pressure the UK Government offered a safe haven to some of Syria’s most vulnerable refugees. But sadly, since the Government set up its special resettlement scheme for Syria’s refugees, very few people have actually arrived. Worse still, the Government has said it only anticipates resettling ‘several hundred people’ over a three year period. This is pitiful. We can and should be helping so many more people.

Syria is still haemorrhaging refugees; over 3 million people have now fled as more people try to escape the fighting and advance of ISIS. The UN’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates that 100,000 more people will be in need of resettlement in 2015 and 2016. We’ve got the opportunity to once again speak up for Syria’s refugees. Will you help?  On 9 December UNHCR will hold a global pledging conference on resettling Syria’s refugees. Countries from all over the world will attend and be asked to increase the numbers of resettlement places they are offering. We want the UK to attend this conference and commit to helping more refugees find safety in the UK. You could help make this happen, by asking your MP today to call on the Government to provide a safe haven to refugees from Syria. TAKE ACTION HERE
