Bishop to join rally against nuclear weapons

Bishop William Nolan of Galloway has confirmed that he will once again be present at the Scottish Christians Against Nuclear Arms (SCANA) event which takes place this Saturday, 13 April 2019 at 12 noon at the North Gate at Faslane. ICN
"Perseverance is the key to winning the battle to rid Scotland of nuclear weapons" said Bishop Nolan, President of Justice and Peace Scotland.
The event will follow the usual pattern, of prayers and readings and the sharing of bread and wine and a picnic afterwards, if the weather is fine.
Trident is the name of the UK's nuclear weapons, based at Faslane on the Clyde. Nuclear weapons have been there for half a century. This is despite the opposition of the people of Scotland, civil society, Scotland's churches, the Scottish Parliament and most of Scotland's MPs. On 19 July 2016, 58 of Scotland's 59 MPs voted against the decision to renew the Trident nuclear weapons system. The Scottish Bishops have consistently opposed nuclear defence.
