Justice & Peace Scotland joined Ayrshire Hope Not Hate on Sunday 27th November 2022 at the gates of Scotland's only Immigration Detention Centre - Dungavel.

Thank you to everyone who came to Dungavel on Sunday 27th November 2022 to peacefully witness against immigration detention and the hostile environment for refugees and asylum seekers.  Your commitment to this cause is truly admirable.

At this solidarity gathering we took time to mark the first anniversary of the tragic deaths in the English Channel of 32 people who drowned on 24/11/21 whilst trying to reach safety here in the Uk  - the name of each victim was read out loud.

These gatherings at Dungavel motivate us to continue to campaign for an asylum system that works, one that has safe routes that mean people do not feel they have no other option but to risk their lives with dangerous journeys to get to safety.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you made me welcome…. "In truth I tell you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me".  Matthew 25.
